Dog-Gone Good Board Books

It's hard not to love a cute dog or a cute baby! Put them together and you have a perfect pair: board books about dogs for babies!

Sam Lloyd, whose newest picture book Mr. Pusskins was reviewed here a couple of days ago, has also created the concept board book Happy Dog Sad Dog. Lloyd seems to be a master of line, so her style is made to order for the youngest readers. This one matches her strong and simple line drawings with pairs of opposites that are genuinely funny, as in "clean dog, dirty dog," "hairy dog, bald dog," and "lots of dogs, no dog." Great for tots between one and two years old--no bones about it.

Eric Hill's Where's Spot? is a classic that no little one should miss. As soon as the "peek-a-boo" instinct show itself, it's time to get out this book and start the fun. In fact, he or she may love it so much that you'll have to replace it a time or two. Finding Spot at the end is always occasion for celebration! For more like this title, take a look at Little Spot Board Books. All are sure to please.

For slightly older tots, the Biscuit Board Books are another happy hound series that toddlers love. Biscuit is the puppy equivalent of a toddler, always busy, always on the scene when messes are made, and always lovable. There are many levels of Biscuit stories, from board books to easy reader books that can take the tot from cutting teeth on the books to reading one solo.

  • Some may feel squeamish about eating it, but rabbit has a fan base that grows as cooks discover how easy they are to raise — and how good the meat tastes.
