Baby Boos!: Mouse's First Halloween by Lauren Thompson

"Deep in the shadows
Mouse saw
Something flickering,
Grin, grin, grin.
What could it be?
A glowing Jack-o-Lantern, that's all!
Not so scary after all."

A little mouse ventures out on her first Halloween night and meets up with flitting bats, tumbling leaves, a scarecrow on a pole, dropping apples, and scampering kittens. But then, scariest of all the sights on Halloween night, she sees huge, mysterious figures, thumping and shrieking:

"Trick or treat!"
Giggle and fright!
It's fun to be scared...
On Halloween night!

Thompson's comforting little board book is just right for baby spooks just old enough to be aware of the sights and sounds of Halloween night. Mouse's First Halloween makes it all familiar and non-threatening with the soothing refrain of "Not so scary after all," while on the final page we see mouse, proudly toting a huge piece of candy corn back to her waiting parents at the mousehole door.
