Spooky Spectacular: Can You See What I See? On a Scary Scary Night by Walter Wick

Walter Wick, co-creator of the beloved I Spy series of picture riddles, has just published a new offering in his own series, On A Scary Scary Night (Can You See What I See?), just in time for the scary season.

Wick's spectacular artwork begins with a wide-angle shot titled "On a Scary Scary Night" which shows a moonlit woodland, medieval village, and a mountaintop castle. As the layout lens progressively narrows, the reader-searcher is encouraged to locate hidden objects in the pictures as they focus down through succeeding chapters --"Beneath a Scary Scary Moon," "In a Scary Scary Town," "On a Scary Scary Street," "Atop a Scary Scary Hill," and "Inside a Scary Scary Castle."

Inside the spooky castle itself, the focus zooms in on a scary stairway leading to a scary tower in which there is a jam-packed cupboard upon which there is a tiny scary, scary bottle labelled "Spirit Potion." When the forbidden bottle is opened, of course, it sets loose the inevitable scary, scary ghost.

Following the rough outline of the folktale "In a Dark, Dark Wood," Wick and his remarkable crew of builders and artists provide the reader with gorgeous and intricate layouts that tempt the eye even as they put vision and concentration through an extreme test. Kids who love the earlier series and the equally attractive and popular Can You See What I See? series will be just as eager to cast their eager peepers on this new entry.
