Bedtime Tale: Tuck Me In! by Dean Hocohen

WHO NEEDS TO BE TUCKED IN?

Well, just about everyone, it seems. Dean Hacohen's and Shery Sherry Scharschmidt's little interactive bedtime book pictures faux naif illustrations of adorable young animals who really need to be tucked in.

All reply in the affirmative to the opening question, and the author-illustrators provide the young storytime listeners with the chance to provide that tucking--in the form of a sturdy flap page which can be turned to provide a colorful coverlet for each little animal. A pink pig, striped zebra, elephant, and even a little peacock gets a snug settling down and a "Good night, baby" to set the scene for sleep.

The flaps are cleverly illustrated as posh bed sheets on one side and cozy comforters on the other, and young lapsitters who are settling down for their own tucking in will love to participate in the putting-to-bed process as they tuck in their storybook counterparts. A creative new twist on the bedtime tale, Tuck Me In! (Candlewick, 2010) is a comforting little hands-on way to say goodnight!

  • Thank you for writing such a detailed review! After reading this awesome tale just a couple of times, it became my son's favorite bedtime book. I had been reading it to him almost nightly for a couple of months. Very cute illustrations and concept.
