Freeze Fun: Just a Snow Day by Mercer Mayer
I GO SLEDDING ON MY SLED.
PLEASE GIVE ME A PULL!
Toddlers and preschoolers love to use their senses, to hear, see, and do at the same time, and when it comes to snow activities, this is doubly true. Mercer Mayer's classic Little Critter: Just a Snowy Day (Harper Festival), give tots a chance to be part of the snow-day fun.
Little Critter's sled has a "rope" to pull it with, and little fingers can grasp that rope, give it a tug, and Critter's sled glides down the hill. When he skates on the frozen pond, a pull tab can swing back and forth, making him totter forward and fall backward on the "shiny, slippery ice." His warm coat swings open so that its fuzzy lining can be felt, and his knitted cap has a woolly, poofy tassel to touch. And when he goes inside to thaw out, there's a scratch-and-sniff cup of hot chocolate to sniff, and when he warms up in a steamy bath, he asks the reader for help pulling his folding shower curtain aside when it's time to get out.
For fans of Little Critter, pair this snowy day story with Mayer's Little Critter: Just a Snowman for a toddler twofer. And don't forget your mittens!
