Shades of Blue: Pete the Cat and His Magic Sunglasses by Kimberley and James Dean

PETE THE CAT DID NOT FEEL HAPPY.

PETE HAD NEVER, EVER, EVER HAD THE BLUE CAT BLUES.

But the always-upbeat Pete is having a Grumpy Cat-style down day. Feeling lower than the proverbial snake's belly button, Pete slumps along until whom should he meet but the grumpiest guy
he knows, Grumpy Toad.

But this time Toad is not glum!  He's sporting a set of blue shades and tells Pete that his new sunglasses turn the whole world sunny.
"THESE COOL, BLUE, MAGIC SUNGLASSES MAKE THE BLUES GO AWAY!" HE SAID.  "THEY HELP YOU SEE THINGS DIFFERENTLY."

He offers them to Pete the Cat, and suddenly everything seems sunny side up to Pete. "Right On!" he cries.

Now Pete's a believer, and when he meets up with his friend Squirrel, all in a funk, he offers him a look through his magic glasses.  Squirrel is surprised!

"AWESOME!"'

In turn, Pete saves the day for his equally depressed buddies, Turtle and Armadillo with a quick look through his magic specs, and everything is going all right,  but then, when Pete's skateboard hits a bump, he cracks his sunglasses, and his up mood takes a drop as well.

Will Pete the Cat fall back into the blue cat blues?

Not so long as the Wise Old Owl has the right words of advice, in the newly revised edition of Kimberly and James Dean's first collaboration, Pete the Cat and His Magic Sunglasses (Harper, 2013, rev. ed.).  In this one even Pete's fur may be in mood indigo as he sings the blues, but as always with Pete, his skateboard takes a turn to the sunny side of the street, and he's soon rollin' along, feelin' all right!

And to get into the coming holiday mood,  don't miss the just published Lift-The-Flap Book, Pete the Cat: The First Thanksgiving (Harper Festival, 2013) for fall fun with Pete and the Pilgrims.  And  as for the first Thanksgiving dinner, well, "it's all good!"
