Baccalaureate Mom! Mom School

WHEN I GO TO SCHOOL

I LEARN HOW TO COUNT TO 100.

MY MOM SAYS SHE WENT TO SCHOOL, TOO.

I THINK SHE WENT TO MOM SCHOOL.

What do moms learn in Mom School?

They learn all the important stuff, like, oh, how to shop without losing their kids,  how to read stories while making sure everyone can see all the pictures, how to pitch S-L-O-W enough for a rookie to be able to get a hit,  how to build sofa cushion caves, how to enjoy roller coaster rides at the fair, and how to make cupcakes.

SOMETIMES I DO WISH MY MOM HAD MISSED THE DAY THEY TAUGHT ABOUT EATING VEGETABLES.

Mom has a regular job but still ....

...SHE SAYS HER MOST IMPORTANT JOB IS THE ONE SHE LEARNED AT MOM SCHOOL.

Rebecca Van Slyke's Mom School (Doubleday Books, 2015) is a summa cum laude degree for the women of the hour on Mothers Day.  Artist Priscilla Burris also earns full honors for her witty illustrations of a child's-eye-view of what a school for momhood would include--slipping down the playground slide in a cardboard box to learn not to be afraid of scary carnival rides, baiting a fishhook, or pumping up up a bike tire with one hand. Jolly good fun for moms and kids.
