Another for Dads (and Moms): Daddy's Lullaby by Tony Bradman

At the end of a long work day, a young dad slips quietly into a sleeping house on Friday night, shares a bit of milk with a companionable cat, and carries the cat upstairs with him hoping to start a long-awaited night's sleep right away. But, hey, there's a small baby waking up and ready for some nighttime Daddy time.

Dad takes the wide-awake baby for a quiet tour of the house, looking in on his sleeping big brother and his bear and a happily dreaming mom snuggling into her pillow. Cuddling and shushing the baby, Dad tiptoes downstairs, followed again by the faithful cat, and settles the baby on his shoulder to sing him to sleep:

Rock-a-bye baby
In Daddy's arms,
Daddy will hold you
Safe from all harm.

Daddy will love you
And sing you to sleep,
Love you forever--
A promise he'll keep.

Daddy is with you,
So don't make a peep,
Rock-a-bye baby,
Let's both go...to...
Sleep! At last sleep catches up with Dad and babe in the chair, where Mom and big brother discover them in the morning, with the cat still on Dad's lap.

If you've ever enjoyed the quiet, dark hours of the night with a little one nestled in your arms, you'll find that feeling again in the pages of this book. Author Tony Bradman's text is simple and apt, and illustrator Jason Cockcroft's soft night-lit paintings capture the magic of family love perfectly.
